Introduction ℹ️
As part of the Adobe Illustrator team, I led user testing, iterated on feature designs, and collaborated with engineers to create the Client Presentation feature. This solution revolutionizes how designers showcase their work, enabling seamless presentations and empowering clients with in-app annotation tools, fostering more engaging and efficient collaboration.
Problem 🤔
Designers struggled to present their work directly within Adobe Illustrator, relying on external tools that disrupted their creative flow. This gap hindered efficient client collaboration and made showcasing designs a fragmented, time-consuming process.
Solution 💡
Empower designers to deliver polished, seamless presentations directly within Illustrator, enhancing the storytelling experience
Equip clients with dynamic tools for real-time feedback and annotations, fostering deeper collaboration
Transform the process into an efficient creative exchange through live design edits in presentation mode
Research 🔎
If I can just hand them a pen and say, "Here, show me," that helps me, because I'm visual, and then they're not writing it out. It also makes it faster for the both of us.
— Kelsey, Freelance Editorial Designer & Illustrator
Through user testing and interviews, I collaborated with UX researchers to uncover critical pain points in Adobe Illustrator on the iPad:
Missed Opportunities for Client Engagement: Users saw the iPad’s potential for seamless collaboration yet lacked the tools to harness it
Need for Presentation Tools: ‘Preview’ and ‘Presentation’ modes were essential for better client communication
Demand for Animation Features: Quick, easy animations were a top request to elevate presentations
Competitive Analysis 📊
I drew insights from industry-leading platforms such as Apple Keynote, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Google Slides.
Ideation ✏️
I utilized Miro to create a detailed UX flowchart, mapping user interactions of stakeholders using the client presentation feature.

Afterwards, I sketched out the user flow to ensure seamless user experience.

Client Presentation Feature ✨
Using Spectrum Design System, I crafted high-fidelity wireframes and seamlessly integrated their style and icons into the presentation feature. Through multiple iterations, I finalized a polished design and prototyped the full experience. Key highlights include:
Artboard Management

Users can arrange artboards, add speaker notes, reorder, or hide them to prepare for presentations, giving them full control over the presentation setup on the iPad.
Interactive Markup Tools

Designers and clients can easily access tools to draw, comment, and annotate directly on the artboard, facilitating hands-on feedback that designers can revisit and address.
More Controls

Designers can toggle visibility for comments and markups within the presentation mode via a top-bar menu, providing flexibility for both presentations and working directly on the canvas.
Designers can generate a shareable link with customizable editing permissions. The link is automatically copied and ready for distribution, streamlining client collaboration.
